Individual Volunteering at the Seattle House

Every family that arrives at the House has a unique set of needs, and we depend on volunteers to help us meet those. Whether it’s cooking warm chocolate chip cookies to boost families’ spirits, taking a shift greeting them at the front desk, or helping organize food donations, volunteers play an important role in daily operations.

How to get started:

  • Review our volunteer requirements on this page.
  • Check out our available opportunities, below, to see what interests you and fits your schedule.
  • Sign up to attend an introductory meeting to learn more about our organization, tour our campus, and review current volunteer needs and requirements. (Submit form below).

Requirements

  • Volunteers must be free from COVID-19 symptoms and not have been in close contact, within the last week, with someone who is sick with COVID-19 or other contagious illness.
  • Teens aged 13-15 must be accompanied by an adult while volunteering. Additionally, they must have had chickenpox or be vaccinated against it by age 18.
  • Meal Helper volunteers must be at least 16 years of age.

Opportunities

Front Desk
Front Desk volunteers greet families and visitors, handle deliveries, answer phones, and address questions and situations.

Meal Helper
Meal Helpers work alongside our Culinary Team to create dinners, desserts, and items for our breakfast buffet.

Breakfast Buffet
The breakfast buffet volunteer helps our families start their day well. They set up the breakfast buffet, restock dining room supplies, and make coffee for our families.

Van Driver
Our Van Drivers transport our families to stores and to special activities. They also support the House by picking up essential items and donations. Van Drivers need to be at least 21 years old, with a good driving record and insurance.

Family Resource Center (FRC)
At the FRC, families can check out movies, games, and gaming consoles. FRC volunteers oversee opening the center, ensure it is organized and clean, and check items in and out.

Events Volunteer
If you are interested in volunteering for a special event such as our annual RMHC Gala, please contact Emma Croston at [email protected].

Helping Hands
Helping hands volunteers assist the Environmental Services team in keeping the House clean and organized for our families.
