Ronald McDonald House Charities®
of Western Washington & Alaska
Our mission
We support seriously ill children and their families. At the Seattle Ronald McDonald House, we provide a “home-away-from-home” to help families through a difficult time. We also provide a van service for families staying in Anchorage while their children receive medical care.
History
The Seattle Ronald McDonald House opened in 1983. We depend on charitable donations and volunteer support from many individuals, corporations and foundations for our continued existence.
In 2003, we quadrupled our House’s capacity to 80 guests per night. In 2012, we provided over 26,000 nights of housing to nearly 650 families. We offer our House to the families of any seriously ill children who live at least 45 miles away while undergoing treatment at Seattle Children’s.
Funding
RMHC receives no government funding, but relies on the generosity of the private sector. Local McDonald’s restaurants provided 26 percent of our operating budget through their in-store canister program and other promotions in 2012.
Our House is part of the global Ronald McDonald House Charities®, which includes over 300 Houses worldwide in 57 countries. RMHC global was founded in 1984, a decade after Philadelphia Eagles' tight end Fred Hill, whose daughter had leukemia, helped open the first Ronald McDonald House in Philadelphia.
